08:30 – Left Coffs Harbour from the Park Beach Holiday Park, which was very nice, quiet, good ensuite, pool and other facilities were excellent. It was situated very close to Park Beach. We liked this location a lot, close to everything with good bike access.
The tracks we rode were a mixture of formed concrete, bitumen or boardwalk surfaces but we also did a lot of dirt track riding through the bush as well. The tracks were often poorly maintained and badly sign posted.
Sawtell Beach, we had morning tea at the Surfclub cafe which had great coffee and even better views. [photo] The main road had huge fig trees and was very pleasant.
Urunga, has a long boardwalk [800m or so, out and back, which has been built in three sections], over the lagoon. This is followed by another long rough walk on top of the entrance breakwater walls to Hungry Head Reserve and ocean beach. While walking back on the breakwater we noticed some unusual driftwood which looked very much like a dinosaur, Axel will be interested in this photo.
Caravan park right on the lagoon, this would be a great place for small kids with huge areas of relatively shallow lagoon water for them to swim, snorkel or play in.
Nambucca Heads, very hilly and it was raining when we were there. Limited views from the headland, we didn’t hang around, with the rain, to look at the river or lagoon areas. Lots of oyster leases in the river.
We took a trip out to Taylors Arm where the Pub made famous by Slim Dusty’s song, “Pub with no Beer”, is located. We had a pleasant late lunch and a drink.
Inside the Beer Worship Church
We called in to Mt Yarrahapinni and drove through a very narrow, almost 4wd track to go to the lookout. We were a bit concerned about the last section of the track to the very top so took the van off and continued. After all that the views were pretty average because of the low cloud and rain. The rainforest areas on the track were fabulous though.
Continued to South West Rocks, finally found a decent breakwater to ride or walk on. There are 8 or more beaches in this town with Horseshoe Bay the best.
