Kununurra Market Day
This was a fairly small local market selling all the usual stuff, the unusual local Zebra Rock and local fresh fruits and veges.
Ord Valley Farmland
The fresh fruits and veges at the markets prompted us to have a look at the local irrigated farmlands where these are grown. There are many kilometres of irrigation chanells and syphon tubes which take the water into individual furrows across the paddocks.
Ivanhoe Crossing
This is the crossing of the lower Ord River with regulate d water from the diversion dam always covering it.
Lots of water but absolutely no swimming due to the alt water crocodiles.
Hoochery Distillery
The sugar cane farm here provides the raw ingredients for a frange of spirits.
Argyle Downs Museum
This homestead was removed from the valley floor prior to the flooding of the Argyle Dam. Rvery stone block was numbered and the whole building was re-erected piece by piece in a higher area.
We seem to be doing this tour today with 3 busloads of other tourists!!!
Lake Argyle
This is the huge lake formed by the damming of the Ord River. It stores all the wet season flooding and regulates the flow of that through the dry season to irrigate the beautiful lush valley farms.
